Music Activity
Music plays an integral role in the lives of each and every student at Mayo College Girls’ School. Our school offers Music into two categories namely – Hindustani Music and Western Music.
While Hindustani Music includes learning classical vocal singing and learning of a variety of instruments like the tabla, sitar and violin; the Western Music Department offers its students vocal singing, guitar, piano, drums and keyboard .
For classes 4 to 8, the girls’ can opt one out of a wide range of options including tabla, violin, sitar and vocal music in Hindustani Music as a compulsory activity. For Western Music as a compulsory activity, the vocal aspect of music is more focused on for classes 4 to 6, after which the girls’ can be more deeply involved and learn about the instruments. Regardless of this tendency, the girls’ are free to pick up skills in the instruments and appear for the Trinity Music Examinations.
On the other hand, students from classes 9 to 12 have the option to choose music ( choose one out of vocal, tabla or sitar)as a sixth subject and study about it in greater depth and intensity. In addition to this, the Western Music Department trains our students to take the Trinity London Examinations in both the Rock and Pop and Classical categories. Our girls have performed and scored exceedingly well in these Trinity Exams.
