Sports Structure at MCGS

At Mayo College Girls' School, we prioritize the physical development and well-being of our students through a robust sports program. Our structure ensures that all students engage in regular physical activity, promoting teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle.

Compulsory Activities

Swimming and Cross Country are mandatory for all students to ensure a well-rounded fitness regime.

Sports Participation by Class

Class 4 & 5:Students are required to participate in one team game and one individual sport, fostering both collaborative and personal athletic skills.

Class 6 to 12:Students have the freedom to choose any one sport of their choice, allowing them to specialize and excel in their preferred discipline.

Additional Sports

Paid SportsHorse Riding and Golf are available as additional paid options, offering students the chance to engage in these prestigious and skillful activities.

Athletics
Athletics

Athletics events are the oldest form of organized sport, having developed out of the most basic human activities, running, walking, jumping, and throwing. These skills enable students to prepare for other games as well. Athletics not only builds the students’ physically, but it helps in body coordination and gives them mental steadiness. We have a 400-mtr track with 6 lanes along with Jumping and Throwing facilities on the athletics field. Our students explore and excel in all tracks and field events. The athletes are provided with ample opportunities to take part in various levels of competitions such as district, State, CISCE, IPSC and at the SGFI. A number of athletes have been participating at the SGFI nationals and CISCE-Nationals every year.

Basketball

Basketball is yet a popular sport among the students in the school, with 4 excellent synthetic courts. Playing basketball develops crucial life skills such as effective communication, quick decision-making, and adaptability under pressure. The teams have been doing exceptionally well at IPSC, CISCE, District and State championships and a number of students participate at SGFI and Open Nationals every year.

Swimming

Swimming is a life skill and here at Mayo College Girls School, we believe all students should have the opportunity to learn how to swim, as it promotes physical fitness, builds endurance, and teaches valuable lessons in discipline and perseverance. We encourage all the students to take up swimming beyond their regular sport. Our girls have participated in National and State level tournaments and won many medals. Swimmers are trained for hours to excel at swimming and to support that, the school has two 25-meter Swimming Pools dedicated to Junior and Senior Category along with two dedicated coaches and lifeguards at both pools. Through swimming, students also learn important safety skills that can be lifesaving in emergency situations, making it an invaluable part of their education.

MCGS is known for its shooters at the National and International level. Our students have represented India and achieved Gold medals in shooting at the International tournaments. Our students have also won many medals at the National and State level tournaments. Shooters are trained for hours to excel at the shooting and a number of girls have opted for this sport. We have Shooting range of 10 Sius electronic target lanes in 10m Rifle and Pistol categories. Beyond competitive success, shooting instills focus, precision, and self-control, skills that are invaluable in both academic and personal pursuits.

Soccer is one of the most popular games in Mayo College Girls’ School, which not only helps the students to build their strength and stamina but also helps in developing qualities like teamwork, unity and leadership. Additionally, playing soccer enhances strategic thinking and improves communication skills, essential for both sports and everyday life. School offers two dedicated soccer fields to cater to the demands of this game. Students are trained under the supervision of a professional coach. Throughout the year the students mainly participate in IPSC, CISCE and ISSO competitions and get a chance to further participate in the Subroto International Tournament and other National level tournaments after selection. Our school team has won many trophies and medals over the years and has participated in Subroto International Tournament.

The sport is very popular in MCGS and becoming more and more popular across the country. MCGS has three air-conditioned squash courts designed as per the guidelines of World Squash Federation. Our players participate in many state and national level tournaments and achieved positions & medals at all levels.

Our school cricket is supported by exceptional infrastructure such as state of art of bowling machine, well maintained pitch and bowling and batting nets. The students have won prestigious accolades in various tournaments, showcasing their talent and dedication. MCGS Cricket team has made their debut in Woman Senior and Junior Ranji Trophy. The girls have represented school at SGFI Cricket Nationals and have secured 2nd position in CISCE Cricket U-19 Nationals. Our school cricket team has set a record of consecutively winning Cricket IPSC for the past10 years. Cricket inter-house tournament provides a platform for healthy competition and skill development, promoting a love for sports among the young cricketers.

Golf At Mayo College Girls' School offers a 9-hole, 2700-yard golf course at the Mayo campus. This game is becoming increasingly popular at MCGS as it provides a direct gateway to prestigious colleges in the US. Our girls receive coaching under the expert guidance of Amandeep Johl, a certified Golf Coach from the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) and a Level 2 certified instructor from the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). Golf not only enhances physical fitness but also develops strategic thinking and concentration, making it a valuable addition to our sports program.
